01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Watching sushi shaped briskly across the counter while ordering whatever cuts appeal in the moment is one of the classic pleasures of a neighborhood sushi bar. Located in Kita-Otsuka, Toshima Ward, SushiTsune serves authentic nigiri and seafood dishes centered on daily-sourced live fish, all in an approachable, unpretentious setting.
For a hearty meal, platters serve as a reliable centerpiece. The Tsune Nigiri includes medium fatty tuna, salmon, lean tuna, red shrimp, and salmon roe, while the Kaisen Jo Nigiri steps up with premium sea urchin and marinated tuna. Both sets come with soup, which can be upgraded to fish-bone soup for an additional charge. Diners can also opt for the Hon-Maguro 5-Piece Nigiri—packed with fatty tuna, medium fatty tuna, seared fatty tuna, and minced tuna with pickled radish hand rolls—or order piece by piece from the clearly priced a la carte selection, spanning shiny silver-skinned fish like gizzard shad and cured mackerel through to a whole simmered conger eel.
Those who enjoy a drink before their sushi will appreciate the varied side dishes, including silver cod grilled with saikyo miso, simmered fish head, assorted tempura, and deep-fried squid tentacles. The drink list covers draft beer and highballs alongside dry regional sakes like Kisenju and Hokusetsu, as well as the clean-finishing Jokigen, all pairing naturally with sashimi and seafood delicacies. In addition to solo-friendly counter seating, spacious tables make dining comfortable for groups, while child-sized nigiri sets and high chairs help families relax together.
During the day, wallet-friendly choices such as the weekday-only Lunch Nigiri and Bara Chirashi make a quick midday stop convenient. With takeout and delivery also available, SushiTsune works just as well for an everyday solo lunch as it does for bringing a proper sushi spread home.
